Having poor credit can make it very difficult when it comes to things such as purchasing a new car, buying a house, getting a credit card or even qualifying for rent. While it can be difficult and frustrating it does not have to be impossible. Here are some tips on how to qualify for a rental with poor credit.

Look for No Credit Check Rentals

When it comes to finding a rental and you have poor credit look for house or apartment rentals that do not require credit checks. While some landlords and apartment housing complexes do require credit checks, there are many of them out there that do not require them. By doing some simple research and looking around you may be able to find one that does not look too closely at a credit report.

Have a Co-Signer

If you find the perfect house or apartment but they do require a credit check, see if you are able to bring along a co-signer. Having a co-signer means having someone who has good credit will back you and pay in the event you are not able to. It is very important to remember that if you choose to do this, you must keep up with the rent or it will go on your co-signers credit.

Have Strong References

If at all possible, have at least 3-5 references that you can list. Try to pick people you are not related to and if at possible bring along a list of strong work references. This may be enough to keep a landlord from being swayed away because of a bad credit report.
